Once upon a time, there was a girl named Alex. She was a self declared introvert with shoulder length black hair and eyes so brown they almost appeared black. She had dated several times before. But none of those times were to compare at all to the going ons and chaos which occurred at the beginning of the year 2019.
it was the beginning of a new year, and Alex was feeling fantastic. It had been quite a while since she felt good about herself. Now, however, she was in the best of spirits. Even more so when a friend of hers named Rae introduced her to one of the most perfect people in the entire universe: Jasmin.
Jasmin was beautiful from the start. There wasn’t another human in the entire world which could even attempt to compare with them. Jasmin was non-binary, that is to say, neither male nor female. Their lack of gender only made them more stunning to Alex though.
The pair hit it off almost immediately. Jasmin was not only far superior in beauty to most others their age, they also had a glowing personality. They were the kindest person Alex had ever met in the entire world. And, perhaps most importantly, they had three lovely cat children. Mynx, Luna, and Taz. Alex would always remember their names. The cats, and Jasmin, were impossible to forget. Alex fell quickly and hard, which was very unlike her to do.
The two inevitably ended up getting together, and for two glorious months, they loved each other. Or, at least, Alex thought they did. She knew without a doubt that she loved and would always love Jasmin, her beautiful, soaring butterfly. It all came to a head when Alex discovered that the feelings weren’t exactly mutual.
There was a breakup. Alex wanted Jasmin to stay. Jasmin only wanted to be friends. Jasmin was something akin to a large, freshwater lake in the middle of a searing desert. Quite possibly, the only lake of this incredible size for eons of miles. Losing Jasmin was difficult for Alex. But dammit all if she wasn’t going to try.
It got worse. So much worse. Alex was lonely, and wanted Jasmin back. She resorted to tactics never normally used. She tried to ask one of their mutual friends to fake date her in order to make Jasmin realize what they’d given up, and come back to Alex. It was unsuccessful. The friend did not agree, and instead the plot was discovered by Jasmin themselves.
The friendship ended unwillingly on Alex’s part after that. For over a year now, there have been attempts on her part to contact and apologize to her lost companion, to no avail.
It’s 2020 now, and Alex, to this day, has never seen Jasmin again. Truly, Jasmin is the butterfly that flew away. Will Alex ever see them again? She hopes that maybe one day it could still be possible. For now, however, she waits. Waits for her butterfly to fly back to her. Waits for Jasmin to come home once more.
